Bowen Technique

The Bowen technique is a gentle holistic treatment that is not a massage yet aims to restore balance to the body by using small, gentle movements on muscles and tendons. The precise, light movements are applied either directly on the skin or through light clothing to the muscles, tendons or ligaments. A delicate, cross-fibre movement is used to release tension and energetic blocks held in the muscles, allowing the body to rebalance itself naturally and therefore maximise the potential for healing.

Many of the movement points used correspond to trigger points or acupressure points used in massage. The movements assist blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, helping to clear toxins from the body.

Bowen can help with a wide range of conditions:

  • Musculo-skeletal pain such as back pain, frozen shoulders & necks, sporting & work-related injuries, knee problems, arthritic pain, fibromyalgia...
  • Respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis, hay fever
  • Migraine and headaches
  • Digestive disorders such as constipation, colic, IBS, indigestion & heartburn
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME)
  • General relaxation, body balancing and lymphatic congestion
  • Gynaecological conditions; infertility (male and female), PMS, breast lumps
  • Bowen may help during pre- and post-operative periods
  • Children and even small babies respond especially well to Bowen treatment and it is also ideal to keep the body comfortable and balanced during pregnancy
  • Stess management, fatigue and sleep problems
  • Children’s bedwetting problems
